Part IV: Special Topics

Abstract

The full title of this section is: Special Topics in PGCert Development.

The field of higher education is continually evolving and the PGCert with it. While its core principles remain rooted in promoting more inclusive, high-quality professional practices, new challenges and opportunities emerge as institutions adapt to new educational realities. Part IV of this book, Special Topics in PGCert Development, takes a closer look at these emerging themes and how they shape the design and delivery of PGCert courses today.

This section begins with an exploration of the 2023 Professional Standards Framework (PSF) in Chapter 8 and its connection with the PGCert.

Chapter 9 (available only on this companion website) shifts focus to education for sustainability, an increasingly vital area in the context of global environmental challenges and the need for higher education institutions to demonstrate leadership in this space.

Finally, Chapter 10 (available only on this companion website) addresses the development of online PGCerts. As many universities expand their global presence, supporting staff across multiple campuses and diverse cultural contexts has become a pressing issue.

This companion website also hosts (under Extras) a contributed narrative regarding AI and the PGCert as a prompt to reflect on recent developments and implications for PGCert design. Part IV builds on the foundational knowledge and practices discussed in earlier sections of the book. While I am only able to scratch the surface of these important topics, I will focus on highlighting the contributed narratives and case studies. These chapters aim to provide food for thought rather than definitive solutions, encouraging you, the reader, to reflect on your own contexts and priorities, whether you are refining an existing PGCert course or designing a new one.
