Abstract
In this chapter, I invite you to look carefully at what happens before colleagues join your PGCert. Building on the ‘roots-to-shoots’ framework from Chapter 1, I explore how pre‑PGCert provisions can prepare staff new to academia for their new role as well as act as tasters and lead-ins into the PGCert. I review options like induction workshops, mentoring, and ‘Introduction to Teaching’ short courses. I then consider how the PGCert can act as a central pedagogical hub, connecting institutional strategies, staff development and peer networks.
